Edible Manhattan's Good Spirits

Image
Good Spirits has certainly left us in good spirits!  We just went to the Edible Manhattan food event at La.venue (a really cool space, adjoining The Tunnel where we had beer, bourbon, and barbecue last month) and I came home with my purse stuffed full of: 2 loaves of bread (each the size of my head), 1 can of pear hard cider, 1 glass chalice, 1 can of beer, 2 bottles of San Pellegrino, and the latest edition of Edible Manhattan!  #swag Let's rewind: Unfortunately, busy day jobs (one of us is a tax accountant) kept us from arriving promptly, and by the time we got there a few stations were *gasp* out of food.  We made a beeline for Manhattan Cricket Club's table, which was making a riff on a Tom Collins called "Tommyrotter Collins" made with - guess what - Tommyrotter gin, lemon, agave, seltzer, and mace blade (whut???).  It was super refreshing and citrusy and not too strongly alcoholic, but I regretted not putting at least a little bit of food in my tu...

We've got the ~spirit~, let's hear it! This week, Veritasty is heading over to Edible Manhattan's Good Spirits event for some cleverly crafted cocktails and carefully curated comestibles.  We've got the inside scoop, and it sounds like some of our favorites will have a showing like Angry Orchard Hard Cider , Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, Bustan NYC , Neuman's Kitchen , and ROYCE' Chocolate! Judging by the balance of distilleries, breweries, and non-alcoholic beverage-makers, I'm definitely looking forward to some chic and sophisticated mixed drinks, and certainly pairing them with sweet and savory treats from cool restaurants from around the city. Who:      Edible Manhattan ( http://bit.ly/1PfshJh ) What:    7th Annual Good Spirits Where:   La.venue, 608 West 28th Street, New York, NY When:    Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $65 per person and can be purchased at  http://bit.ly/1PfshJh !...

Postview: Edible Manhattan's Good Beer

If someone asked me to describe Edible Manhattan's Good Beer event in a sentence it would be as follows: delicious bites, refreshing beer, and sweltering heat. This past week, we ventured into Hell's Kitchen (that's a shot for any Daredevil fans) where we arrived at Hudson Mercantile - a completely nondescript seven floor building at 36th St and 10th Ave. Upon arrival through a side door, we were handed (1) a plastic cup and (2) a metal fork - our weapons in this battle to come. Good Beer had three floors - ground level, the 6th floor, and the roof and our first destination was the 6th floor via the elevator. When the doors opened, we were greeted to fantastic smells, a large loft space, and about 30 vendors. Our first stop was Untamed Sandwiches - The Butt - a combination of pork butt over a swath of Dijon mustard nestled between hunks of sour-dough type bread. While it was a very heavy first morsel, the bread certainly helped in soaking up th...

Nothing says "summer" like a nice cold beer and something yummy to eat with it.  I'll admit: I used to not be a fan of beer, but my palette has since changed in favor of a good brew every once in a while.  We may not be beer connoisseurs, but we've done a couple of of homemade and professional beer tastings, enough for me to start to really appreciate a good beer. And that's precisely what's on the menu for this Edible Manhattan event this week, Good Beer.  It will be a smorgasbord of all different beers paired with delicious and diverse foods from New York restaurants.   Just a preview of what's to come: fan-favorites from Brooklyn Brewery, Veritasty's favorite Crabbie's Ginger Beer, a selection of exciting ciders, and definitely some tasty beers that await discovery!  To punctuate every sip, we'll also have kati rolls from The Kati Roll Company, tangy and terrific sweets from Steve's Key Lime Pies, and always-delicious bites th...
